The Conservatory 'Achaiko' was set up in 1981 by pianist RONA ZORBA who has been its Artistic Director ever since. The Conservatory 'Achaiko' has been integrated into the Polyphonic Choir of Patras since 1999 as the seventh part of the Organization. It has been one of the most significant conservatories in Greece due to high standards of education and the consistency provided to its students. Apart from the classes offered, the conservatory organizes concerts every year, such as:
- Its students' concerts
- Its Graduates' Recitals
- Its Teachers' Recitals and
- Recitals of well-known musicians (Dimitrios Sgouros, Dora Bakopoulou, Nelli Semitekolo)
- Educational Seminars (Roger Woodward, Mata Katsouli, Barvara Tsampali, Kostis Konstantaras, Konstantinos Sgourdas, Zachos Terzakis) and
- Various educational or music-philological events
The Conservatory graduates are awarded with their recognized diplomas, in all levels and all classes, by the Ministry of Culture. Most of them already work as music teachers either in public or private schools.
Through the Conservatory 'Achaiko' many solo-artists, its former students, have been distinguished and awarded. The 'Female Choir of the Conservatory was awarded with the Silver Metal in the 4th International Choir Competition in Athens (Conductor: Mr Stavros Solomos). Also, the 'Free Singing Class Group' was awarded in the Completion of Keratsini-Peireas (21.04.07, Conductor: Mrs Katerina Polymenakou). The Conservatory's student Aggelos Verras, student of the Byzantine music class of Giannis Kottoros) was awarded with the 1rst prize in the category of traditional singing at the Pan-Hellenic Children Competition in Karditsa (14.04.07).
Among the Conservatory's graduates are well-known musicians in Greece but also internationally, such as Mr Stavros Solomos, Conductor and Artistic Director of the Polyphonic Choir of Patras, Mrs Fotini Samara, soprano, Mrs Efi Kavvadia-Zerva, Mr Vasilios Lazaris, Mrs Maria Michalopoulou, Mrs Marina Mylona, Mrs Lucy Christodoulou, Mrs Sophia Michailidi, pianists, Mr Paris Pliakas, guitarist, Mrs Nadina Milia, Mrs Lena Sourmeli, Mr Agathaggelos Georgakatos, Mrs Maria Redit, Mrs Nektaria Mpoukistianou, Mrs Katerina Polymenakou, Mrs Mania Asimakopolou and Mrs Dimitra Pitsou, music teachers and choir conductors.
Other students of the Conservatory have been distinguished opera singers such as Charis Andrianos and Ioannis Oikonomou. |
