Preparations are in their final stage for the music and dance performance organized by “POLYPHONIKI”, entitled “And the Month Has… EIGHT”, a playful adaptation of the well-known Greek song.

On February 8, at 8:00 p.m., at the festively decorated theater of the ROYAL multipurpose venue, and co-organized with KEDIP – Patras Carnival, POLYPHONIKI and its friends will come together for the Organization’s traditional Carnival celebration, centered around the unforgettable Archontorebetika songs.

This musical tribute refers to a genre that was born and developed in Greece prior to the 1950s. Influenced by Rebetiko, Archontorebetika combined folk-inspired—often humorous—lyrics and melodies with Western (European) orchestral influences.

This repertoire of songs enjoyed remarkable success as a whole, beginning with “The Last Tram” (lyrics by Alekos Sakellarios, Christos Giannakopoulos and Kostas Giannidis, music by the unforgettable Michalis Sougioul), while many of these songs became timeless classics, remaining popular for decades and up to the present day.

The songs of the 1950s–1960s, which will form the first two-hour part of the performance, will be interpreted by singers from the Contemporary Singing School of the POLYPHONIKI Conservatory, under the guidance of Chrysa Pantazopoulou, the expanded 10-member “Muzicanto” Music Expression Orchestra of the Organization, conducted and orchestrated by Giorgos Papageorgiou, as well as the men’s section of the Mixed Choir, under the instruction of the Organization’s Artistic Director, Mr. Stavros Solomos.
In total, 40 performers will appear on stage.
(General supervision & coordination: Mr. Stavros Solomos – Effie Kavadia)

During the second two-hour part, the ROYAL will transform into a disco venue, where our performers will set the tone for Carnival entertainment with music from both international and Greek repertoires, inviting the audience to an uninterrupted dance celebration. Naturally, special surprises prepared for the entire evening will not be missing.

Admission will be by invitation only, which are already available through the Organization’s Secretariat. Seating will include tables for 10 and 4 persons in the stalls, as well as tables for 6 and 3 persons in the theater balcony.
